Things to do in NYC
Chelsea Market & The High Line
A fantastic way to start a day in New York is with a visit to Chelsea Market. This bustling food & retail hub has everything from caffeine hits and sweet treats to light bites and wholesome meals, popular outlets to boutique designers and even spaces for immersive art exhibitions and live music. Swing by Amy’s Bread for an espresso and croissant before you head round the corner to The High Line - a non-profit organisation & public park built on a historic, elevated rail line running - which used to supply the likes of Chelsea Market. Now, it’s a 1.45 mile-long greenway featuring over 500 species of plants & trees, free and open for all to enjoy.
SUMMIT One Vanderbilt
Say hello to NYC’s newest observation deck, blending elements of arts, technology, architecture and thrill, designed to take you to entirely new heights. Experience SUMMIT as you awaken your sense with three levels of immersive space with glass floors, walls & ceilings. Are you brave enough to step out onto Levitation - two glass ledges suspended 1,100ft above Madison Avenue? Don’t worry, there’s a Nordic style cafe and wraparound terrace to calm your nerves afterwards. January through May 2023 tickets are now available, so speak with our travel experts to include this in your bespoke New York itinerary.
Brooklyn Bridge & DUMBO
Hop out of bed, grab yourself a coffee (and a bagel, of course!) and enjoy a morning stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. Easy to access with lots of Subway connections nearby, a walk across from Manhattan to Brooklyn can take 20-40 minutes, depending on how often you stop to admire the view. When you reach the end, hop-off and head to DUMBO - Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass - a thriving neighbourhood full of independent boutiques, high-end restaurants & trendy cafes. Don't worry, you can catch the Subway back across but before you go, be sure to swing by the intersection of Washington St & Water St to snap the famous shot... you can thank us later!
EDGE @ Hudson Yards
If you've walked all the way North to the end of The High Line, you'll reach Hudson Yards, one of Manhattan's newest and trendiest spots. On the ground you'll find Vessel - an impressive helix of weaving staircases - and opposite a pristine shopping centre, offering a mixture of high-street & high-end stores. But the main attraction is EDGE, (yet) another observation deck offering panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline as you learn about the history of the city. For the true dare-devils, check out City Climb - scale the outside of a skyscraper more than 1,200 feet above the ground, then lean out and look down from the highest outdoor platform in New York City.
FlyNYON Doors-Off Helicopter
Thrill-seekers, listen up! As amazing as the observation decks are providing panoramic views, they don't compare to experiencing Manhattan from 7,500ft in the air during a doors-off helicopter flight, courtesy of FlyNYON! Choose from 15 to 30-minute flights from their base in New Jersey and you'll soon be soaring over the skyline - the moment you get the thumbs up to shimmy towards the ledge and dangle your feet out of the open-door is truly exhilarating! Want to splash out and make your trip extra special? Book a seat for the July 4th or New Year's Eve fireworks display for a truly spectacular experience - worth every penny (well, cent)!
